Excess Account ProtectionThe safety and security of your assets are of paramount importance to us. Accounts held at our clearing partner, Pershing LLC, a subsidiary of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation are afforded additional protection in addition to SIPC account protection.
Learn more about how your Pershing custodied account is protected: Birkelbach Investment Securities and Pershing are members of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC), a non-profit organization that affords coverage to investors. Coverage includes cash and securities benefit of up to $500,000, divided as up to $400,000 in securities and up to $100,000 for cash per customer. For accounts held at our clearing partner, Pershing, LLC your account is afforded additional coverage in excess of SIPC limits through account protection through a policy held by Pershing and underwritten by Lloyd’s of London as well as other re-insurers1. This policy affords protection your assets up to an overall aggregated coverage level of $1 billion for assets in custody at Pershing, LLC or its London-based affiliate, Pershing Securities Limited. The policy includes up to 1.9 million in cash awaiting reinvestment in your individual account. An excess of SIPC claim would only arise when Pershing failed financially and client assets for covered accounts, as defined by SIPC (for Pershing LLC accounts) or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) (for Pershing Securities Limited accounts), cannot be located due to theft, misplacement, destruction, burglary, robbery, embezzlement, abstraction, failure to obtain or maintain possession or control of client securities, or to maintain the special reserve bank account required by applicable rules. Accounts held directly with mutual fund or insurance companies are not afforded excess coverage benefits.
